Attendance, Reporting Absence and Requests for Exceptional Leave

Regular and punctual attendance of pupils is crucial to your child's education.  Pupils who achieve 100% attendance on a termly basis will be awarded a special certificate at the end of year assembly.

Illness

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness please call the school before 9.30am.  If you do not inform us before this time you may be charged for school dinner and the absence marked as unauthorised.  If the absence is for more than one day you need to keep us informed.

Following the advice from the Borough if your child has vomited, had diarrhoea or a temperature please keep them at home until their temperature has been normal or they have not been sick for 48 hours.

Exceptional Leave of Absence During Term Time

Holidays during term time are not permitted. There are 175 days per year when pupils are scheduled holidays for such purposes.

Exceptional leave will be considered by the head teacher for absence which genuinely demonstrates exceptional circumstances (such as bereavement) and so on.  Any requests for exceptional leave must be made in writing to the Headteacher via admin@allsaintsce.lbhf.sch.uk

Please note that:

  • Holidays in term time disrupt your child’s education and is against the law.
  • The head teacher's decision is final.
  • Ten days absence per year is equivalent to 5.3% of your child’s education in that year.
  • Children who have been granted authorised absence who do not return on time on the day agreed after any authorised absence can be removed from the school roll in line with the relevant legislation.
  • The absence will be marked as unauthorised on your child’s attendance record and may be referred to the Education Welfare Service who will consider issuing a fixed penalty notice.
  • Medical Appointments, Musical Examinations and similar or visits to local secondary schools in years 5 or 6 are always authorised – some are classified as educated off site which does not affect your child’s attendance record.  We do however ask parents to make appointments outside of school time to avoid disruption for the child.
