All Saints have achieved the Gold School Games Mark Award!

The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to PE, sport and healthy living. The School Games Mark provides a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport and hopefully inspire these children to carry on these activities throughout their lives. Schools in England that apply will be rewarded bronze, silver or gold levels of the Mark.

To achieve the Gold Award we have to offer the pupils a wide range of sporting opportunities, from 2 hours physical education each week, to making sure the majority of our pupils take part in extra-curricular sessions; also to provide leadership opportunities for the children and to ensure the school takes part in many sports festivals and competitions throughout the year.

Once our application was submitted to the School Games, we were then selected to be externally verified for this award. After a successful meeting with the team, they were more than happy to award us the Gold Award!

This is a great achievement for the school especially as we are the first school in Hammersmith and Fulham to have managed to gain the Gold Award.

What is the Sports Premium?

The government is spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years between 2013 and 2016.

The government is continuing to provide additional funding of £150 million for 2016-17 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary school. In the light of increasing financial pressure further commitment will enable us to continue with the level of provision we have been able to put in place since it began.

This initiative is being jointly financed by various government departments, including those that are responsible for Education, Health, and for Culture, Media and Sport. It will see additional money being given directly to primary school head teachers, to spend on improving the quality of PE and sport for all of their children.

Purpose of this Funding

The aim of this funding is to provide a substantial boost to primary school sport, and to help secure the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, by inspiring more young people to become more actively involved in a range of sports.

Schools will have to spend their Sports Premium Grant on improving the provision of PE and sport that they offer, but will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

How will the Sports Premium Funding be spent … (and who will benefit)?

To employ the services of a Specialist Sports Coach to work alongside class teachers and with children across the school, during curriculum PE lessons.
To increase the amount of swimming lessons available to KS2 children.
To provide specific classes with expert tuition in tennis /early racket skills.
purchasing new PE resources and/or sports equipment
meeting the cost entry (and travel) to inter-school competitions
providing professional development opportunities for members of staff
