School Sports Grant
What is the Sports Premium?
The government spent over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the three academic years between 2013 and 2016.
This funding has now been extended until 2018.
This initiative is being jointly financed by various government departments, including those that are responsible for Education, Health, and for Culture, Media and Sport. It will see additional money being given directly to primary school head teachers, to spend on improving the quality of PE and sport for all of their children.
Pupose of this Funding
The aim of this funding is to provide a substantial boost to primary school sport, and to help secure the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, by inspiring more young people to become more actively involved in a range of sports.
Schools will have to spend their Sports Premium Grant on improving the provision of PE and sport that they offer, but will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
